
Liana Frenette
Women's Representative
Liana Frenette is CEO, Businss Manager and past president of Thunder Bay Testing & Engineering, an engineering company she and her husband purchased in 1995. They purchased the company with 2 staff and currently they have over 60 full time and 20 seasonal. Born and raised in the Rainy River District, Liana grew up with three brothers and one sister all of whom attended post secondary education in Thunder Bay. Her father is a retired school principal and graduate of Lakehead University and her mother a retired nurse and graduate of Confederation College. She has three children, two of whom are currently attending St. Patrick High School and a third is in his second year at Lakehead University.
Liana is currently working on her MBA through Athabasca University. She attended Lakehead University studying Geography and Education, graduating in 1988 and attained her Environmental Assessment Certification in 1998. She has been actively involved in all aspects of the engineering company since purchasing it and has received several certifications as well as designed many internal training programs for workers including the development of a Health & Safety Program. Liana was awarded the Influential Woman of Northern Ontario in 2004 and under her guidance, TBT Engineering was recognized by the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce in 2008 for the Commitment to Quality Award and Business Excellence (Large Employer).
Liana has a passion for community and for improving the conditions for all in Northern Ontario. She was on the Board of Directors of the Norwest Community Health Centre in all positions including Chair as well as on the Provincial Board for the Ontario Association of Ontario Health Centres. She taught Occupational Health and Safety at Confederation College and has participated as a trainer with the Safe Communities Safe Workplace Awareness Program as well as presented at Forum North. She volunteered with Safe Communities and the Industrial Accident Prevention Association and is a member of teh Canadian Society of Safety Engineering.
