The LEPC's serve as key mobilizers for employers, service providers, ministries and levels of government operating locally, and other community groups to engage in more collaborative local planning. Ares of focus include:
- Service Planning (with employment Ontario and non-Employment Ontario organizations) to identify and address service gaps and challenges for clients accessing services
- Workforce development planning with local industry and community stakeholders, supported by local labour market information, to determine skills needs/future skills requirements and/or prevent skills shortages in growth sectors.

Local Skills Mismatch/Labour Shortage Study
This study will highlight current and projected demand and supply disconnects at the 4-digit NOC level. Information gained through this study will improve understanding, promote and allow for collaborative development of strategies to address/assist the coordination and success of matching supply to demand across the sectors in our geographical area.

Career Link Integrated Calendar
The LEPC worked together with community partners to develop a community based information tool that service providers in the Thunder Bay district can access to determine what services, events and training opportunities are available for clients. The online calendar is a hub that gathers all information and resources that will enhance capacity to provide information and referral services throughout the LEPC.Career Link Integrated Calendar
Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training - Changing the Dialogue
The LEPC hosted an Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training program in Thunder Bay for social service sector organizations. The program provided an opportunity for organizations to contribute to the development of necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to support the development of meaningful and informed relations with the Indigenous community. The training program was delivered over the course of two sessions in March 2019.
The EmployerOne Survey was conducted in 2014, 2015 and 2016. It was designed to collect data from local employers on a range of workforce challenges, including labour turnover, hard to fill positions, recruitment difficulties, and current and future skill shortages. Northern Ontario Boundary Map
The LEPC, in partnership with the Northern Policy Institute (NPI), have launched an interactive GIS tool that allows users to explore the many community, administrative and service provider boundaries in the northern regions of Ontario.
The Northern Ontario Boundary Map is loaded with all kinds of features for users, including the ability to see multiple administrative boundaries at once, obtain information on various organizations, use snippets of the map for papers and print, and share the map on social media.
