Term of Employment: 12-month contract

Looking for first time experience in Marketing and Communications? Want to put your skills to use in a meaningful way? North Superior Workforce Planning Board (NSWPB) is hiring a Marketing & Communications Intern to join us for a 12-month contract. This internship is partially funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote projects and initiatives of the NSWPB (WorkSCAPE, Northwest Connector, Energy Sector Timeline, Local Labour Market Plan and Resilient Communities Fund) to communities within the Thunder Bay District, employers, advisory committees and community partners;
  • Work in collaboration with the NSWPB team to assist in building and enhancing the image and visibility of the NSWPB;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a Communications Plan;
  • Plan and coordinate media releases for various projects and initiatives;
  • Conduct outreach activities and organize events to raise awareness of the NSWPB projects and initiatives; 
  • Attend public information sessions, events, conferences and workshops to promote the NSWPB;
  • Manage all social media accounts including creating, posting and managing published content;
  • Generate a fan base through social media by actively engaging community partners, promoting projects and events, and responding to comments, inquiries, and questions;
  • Design and create infographic, banners, cover pages, posters and other promotional materials for various projects and initiatives as required;
  • Participate in survey development and execution;

Qualifications:

  • A college or university diploma/degree in communications, business, or a related field. Must have graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university. This position will be a first full-time employment in the candidate’s field of study;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Strong computer skills and advanced-level working knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Experience with maintaining websites and social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter;
  • Experience in event planning/coordination an asset;
  • Experience in graphic design preferred;
  • Bilingualism in either French, Ojibway, or Oji-Cree will be a considered a definite asset;
  • Familiarity with Northwestern Ontario and/or workforce development would be assets.
