Employers
Employers are a key component of the Local Employment Planning Council. There are over 10,500 businesses in the Thunder Bay district. According to Canadian Business Counts statistics, 2015, in which employers are identified by size, 58 % have zero employees, followed by 20% with 1 to 4 employees and 9% with 5 to 9 employees which means approximately 87% of the businesses in the District of Thunder Bay are small to medium sized employers.
The 2016 EmployerOne survey results indicated that only 26% of the survey respondents use free government employment services. Employers may not be aware of the services or have had the time to explore the options available to them.
A central objective of the LEPC/CLPE pilot project is to provide easier and fuller access to Employment Ontario and Non-Employment Ontario employment and training services for local employers. At the bottom of this page, there is a listing of Service Providers in the Thunder Bay District who can assist employers with accessing subsidies and other supports.
Through labour market research and community consultation several initiatives are taking place. For an overview of current and past initiatives of the LEPC, please visit our Projects page. You can visit our Service Coordination for Employers page to see what specifically we are doing for employers.
